Professional Background
A Municipal Court Judge in East Orange & Irvington, New Jersey since 2000 (now retired) and an attorney in practice for over thirty-five [35] years. She is the first African-American woman listed in the "Top 20 Verdicts and Settlements" of the New Jersey Law Journal, by obtaining a $3.25 million settlement in Grant v. Laresca, et al.
It was a case which afforded her the opportunity to make new law, as she also did in Simmons-Dixon v. Ford Motor Corporation, in which she obtained a reversal of an administrative law judge's decision relating to automobile "Lemon Law", as well as, several others.
Over the last 35 years, her professional life has been dedicated to litigation and conflict management. She appreciates the value of both litigation and arbitration in certain cases, but also believes that in appropriate circumstances, mediation is a more efficient, less expensive, and less risky process for the resolution of disputes.
As a skillful mediator she will not only facilitate communication between disputants, but will also explore with them creative and smart solutions that represent a win-win outcome, which is not often possible in either the courtroom or arbitration tribunal.
